How to measure for allen and roth blinds

Choose the mount first. An inside mount sits within the window opening and needs enough depth; an outside mount covers the opening and needs a few extra inches all round.

top middle bottom width at left middle right height at

Inside mount

The blind sits within the opening. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom to the nearest 1/8 in and use the smallest. Measure the height at the left, middle and right. Round the width down to the closest size and the height up.

1-1/2 in each side 3 in above 1 in below window opening behind the shade

Outside mount

The shade covers the opening. For shades, add 1-1/2 in on each side, 3 in on top and 1 in at the bottom. For horizontal blinds, add 3 in on top and 1 in at the bottom; mounted on the trim, measure trim edge to trim edge and take off 1/4 in for the end brackets.

How to hang allen and roth blinds

The 2-in faux wood blind manual allows about 30 minutes for the job. These are its steps, in order.

  1. Mark the centers. Mark the center of the window and the center of the blind.
  2. Fit the end brackets. Slide them onto the headrail, mark where they sit, then screw them in. Drill 3/32-in pilot holes if you need to.
  3. Add a center bracket. Blinds 29 in wide or more need one or more.
  4. Attach the wand. It fits the tilter on the left side.
  5. Cap the bottom rail. Push the end caps into each end.
  6. Finish with the valance. Clip it on, and fit the hold-down brackets if you are using them.

Cellular shades

Two brackets hold shades 23 to 47 in wide and three hold 48 to 72 in. Push the headrail into the brackets until every tab clicks. To take a shade down, lift the bottom rail and press each bracket tab with a screwdriver.

The valance

One owner found the valance leaves a gap above the window and its clips feel flimsy; flipping it does not raise it, because the clips center it. Replacement faux wood valance clips are sold as Lowe’s item 480135.

allen and roth motorized cellular shades

The motorized blackout cellular shade (manual models 78619 and 78648; 78635 at Lowe’s) runs on a rechargeable battery in the bottom rail and a 6-channel remote. The manual covers pairing; owners worked out the reset.
